LuAnn Graber
Background
I am a retired educator and third act of life artist. When I am not working on my art, you will likely catch me connecting with family or friends, treasure hunting with my camera, reading and writing, or caring for the little patch of Tennessee which we call home.
My artist journey began in the 1st grade when I won a ribbon at the county fair for my self portrait. That ribbon became the fuel for a life-long fascination with art in general and realistic drawing and painting specifically. I delight in artistically capturing detail and emotion.
I work with a variety of subject matter: the people and animals that we love, the places that have captured our hearts, and the experiences that have brought us joy. My goal is to remind the viewer of life’s best moments.
I lean toward the use of graphite, colored pencil, and acrylic. However, I have experimented with watercolor, clay, and stained glass, as well as the drawing/painting apps on my iPad.
My goal with every artwork is to capture the essence of the subject. In a portrait, whether people or animals, the eyes are where the magic happens. When I get them right, and I am never satisfied until I do, I capture spirit and soul. In my landscapes and other subject matter I strive to evoke a sense of love and belonging, joy and peace.
