Willow Oak’s 4th Annual Gumbo Supper Fundraiser
Willow Oak’s 4th Annual Gumbo Supper and Concert was held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Springfield Baptist Church. This popular fundraiser for Willow Oak Center for Arts and Learning was attended by approximately 200 people. Gumbo chefs were Danny Atchley, Shane Shoemaker, and Jason Wilkerson, with Roger Dickerson adding a delicious Brunswick stew. Cornbread was donated by Larry’s Restaurant, and volunteers provided homemade desserts. Melanie Woodall, a Willow Oak art teacher, demonstrated the technique of one-stroke painting as people entered.
A concert of Broadway and popular music rounded out the evening. Bakari King, who played the lead in Robertson County Players’ production of “Big River” last summer, delighted the audience with two selections from “Ragtime.” King will again be featured in RCP’s summer musical as the lead in “Ragtime” in July. Other performers were singers in the Willow Oak Chorale and private music students of Muzetta Swann Miller and Roger Bunch.
