David Robert Farmerie, photojournalist & documentary photographer, will be the featured speaker on Friday, June 14 at Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning. David, whose acclaimed work has been seen in National Geographic, has captured images of global leaders, the Solidarity Movement in Poland, BBC Television, and the Pittsburgh Ballet, among many others.
His exhibition, “In Search of America,” will be the topic on June 14th. The photography and stories are inspiring and emotional. David sought to answer the question “Is this all that America is about?” amid comments of division and hatred within the country. After weeks of thought, David took it upon himself to answer the question. Traveling throughout the country back and forth for over 300,000 miles with no set destinations, he found his answer.
Through conversations, shared experiences and meals, and learning from each mile he traveled, the answer to his question was that “(he) found a country, a society, that is again hopeful and is seeking unity.”
In his words, “My work, as a storyteller, transcends borders and touches souls, and my photographic images become a catalyst for empathy and transformation, helping to bring a greater understanding that brings us closer; where understanding triumphs over ignorance, sparking collective actions that help shape a better world.”
David will lead a discussion of his work, travel across America, and tell the stories of those he has had the privilege to meet. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session with David.
